Lot 275: A Pair of Pearsons Chesterfield Stoneware Vessels including Dispenser
A pair of salt-glazed stoneware vessels attributed to Pearsons of Chesterfield, England. The lot includes a large barrel-form flagon or dispenser and a smaller cylindrical flask, commonly referred to as a ‘pig’ flask or hot water bottle. Both pieces are executed in light cream or tan salt-glazed earthenware. The flagon features molded horizontal banding designed to simulate wooden staves and is fitted with a ceramic and possibly metal spigot near the base, along with a separate circular ceramic lid/stopper. The cylindrical flask features a central neck opening capped by a matching stoneware screw-top stopper, beneath which remnants of a faint paper band are visible, and tapers to a bulbous end.
