Lot 371: Spode Velamour, Set of Four Ceramic Advertising Dishes, Art Deco, Sun-Tipt Citrus
A set of four earthenware dishes produced by the English factory Copeland Spode as part of their Velamour range, dating to circa 1930-1940. Each circular dish features a crimped, scalloped rim and a black-glazed interior well decorated with white transfer-printed cartoon illustrations. These pieces were commissioned as promotional items for Sun-Tipt citrus products. The illustrations depict various characters including a figure in a kilt, characters in grass skirts holding Cindy Sun-Tipt books, and an academic figure in regalia standing before a chalkboard. The reverse of each dish is finished in a white glaze and bears the black transfer-printed mark Spode’s Velamour ENGLAND. Additionally, each piece features gold-script lettering for CITRUS FRUIT PRODUCTS (NORTH WEST) LTD. POULTON-LE-FYLDE. Quantity: 4. Dimensions: Approximately 10 cm diameter each.
