A Carlton Ware fine earthenware jar of compressed globular form with a cylindrical neck, dating to circa 1925–1930. The exterior is finished in a deep cobalt blue lustre glaze, providing a ground for the hand-painted and gilded Mikado pattern. This Chinoiserie design depicts a traditional East Asian landscape featuring pagodas, arched bridges, weeping willow trees, and figures in garden settings. The upper neck features a decorative border of polychrome enamelled ruyi-head scrolls set against a gilded geometric fretwork ground. The interior rim is further embellished with a band of gilded characters in an archaic seal-script style, including the character Ming. The base bears the standard black script printed backstamp Carlton Ware, MADE IN ENGLAND, TRADE MARK, which is of the period. Also present is the impressed shape number 468 and hand-painted pattern numbers 3199 and 3/9127. Quantity: 1. Dimensions: Measurements to be confirmed.
