Lot 1083: A 1937 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Coronation Commemorative Medal by Rowntree and Co

A gilt brass commemorative medal produced to celebrate the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1937. The obverse features the conjoined profile portraits of the King and Queen, both depicted wearing crowns and ceremonial robes, with the peripheral inscription KING GEORGE VI QUEEN ELIZABETH. The reverse is inscribed STRUCK BY THE MAKERS OF ROWNTREE’S COCOA JELLIES & GUMS around the outer edge. The centre features the royal cypher GR beneath a crown, followed by the text TO COMMEMORATE THE CORONATION OF KING GEORGE VI AND QUEEN ELIZABETH 1937. The design is completed with a floral spray at the base representing the nations of the United Kingdom, including the rose, thistle, and shamrock. The medal is constructed with an integral suspension loop at the top, currently holding a small circular jump ring.
