Lot 1106: A West German Studio Pottery Terracotta Vase, Model 541/15

A mid-20th-century studio pottery vase of West German origin, constructed from a reddish-brown earthenware clay. The vessel is of bulbous baluster form, characterised by a wide, flat rim and a short, waisted neck. The decorative scheme employs multiple tactile elements: the shoulder features a band of impressed diamond-point or honeycomb patterning accented with a pale grey slip in the recesses; the mid-section is detailed with incised horizontal lines and a stylised geometric arch; and the lower portion is finished with a dark, stippled band. The underside of the base is incised with the model and size numbers 541/15 and bears a cursive stamped mark reading Handarbeit.
