A Bretby Art Pottery rectangular trough or planter constructed from earthenware. The form consists of a low, rectangular vessel with slightly tapering sides and a flat, recessed base. The exterior is decorated with a graduated monochrome glaze, transitioning from a deep forest green at the base to a lighter olive or lime green towards the rim. The interior is finished in a matching pale green tone. The base features an impressed factory mark for Tooth and Co. Ltd of Woodville, Derbyshire, consisting of a rising sun motif above two rectangular bars containing the words BRETBY and ENGLAND. Below these bars is the impressed model number 1812.
