Buyer's Premium:

A Japanese Meiji period (1868-1912) bronze koro or incense burner. The vessel features a globular body cast in low relief with panels depicting avian and floral motifs, flanked by twin cloud-form handles. The body is supported by a lobed pedestal foot. The removable domed cover is of openwork design with scrolled apertures, surmounted by a finial cast in the form of a seated Shishi (mythical lion dog). The piece exhibits a dark, naturally aged patinated finish. While similar examples from this period are often associated with the Kyoto workshops of makers such as Yoshida, this piece bears no visible maker’s marks and is catalogued as Meiji period.
