A mid-century stylised ceramic pie bird or vent manufactured by Midwinter Pottery, England. The figurine is modelled as a blackbird with an open yellow beak, intended for use in baking to allow steam to escape from beneath a pastry crust. The piece features a high-gloss black glaze with a white base and hand-painted yellow details to the beak and feet. The interior of the hollow base bears the printed maker mark MIDWINTER ENGLAND in black.
