Lot 538: A Collection of Vintage Lithographed Metal Advertising Tins
This collection comprises lithographed metal advertising containers primarily focused on mid-20th century automotive and household maintenance products. The group includes a rectangular Dunlop Valve Rubbers tin in yellow and red featuring the diamond logo and marked for 500 shaped valve rubbers. Also included is a round FLP Chromium Polish tin with a yellow and red sunburst design and detailed usage instructions. There is a large round Black and Decker Electric Wax tin, model U-2197, finished in red and black with text specifying its use with electric sander-polishers. The collection features a round Excelene Lubricating Oil tin with an integrated dispensing spout, manufactured by The Humber Oil Co. Ltd. of Hull; the reverse features pictograms for various mechanical items including bicycles, typewriters, and cars. Additionally, there is a round Copes Escudo Navy De Luxe tobacco tin marked as Pure Tobacco from Cope Bros and Co Ltd of Liverpool and London, and a rectangular Mafco Motor Products tin with a yellow and black striped design. Most items in this collection exhibit markings consistent with British manufacture.
