Lot 551: A Collection of Vintage Ephemera comprising a 1970 World Cup Souvenir Chart, Studio Portraits, and Assorted Postcards

This collection of vintage ephemera features a large newspaper souvenir poster, two studio portraits, and an assortment of early 20th-century postcards.

The primary item is The Sun World Cup 1970 Souvenir Chart, a commemorative newspaper supplement for the FIFA World Cup in Mexico. The chart includes sections for Great British players of the past, Stars of previous World Cups, and England’s squad for Mexico, alongside a world map and illustrations of the Aztec Stadium and the Jules Rimet Cup. Contemporary ink handwriting is visible in the Results for 1970 section, where tournament scores have been recorded.

The lot contains two large-format studio portrait photographs mounted on card. One portrait depicts a man in side profile wearing a British military tunic characteristic of the WWI era. The second portrait shows a woman in side profile wearing a necklace.

An assortment of over 25 postcards is included, featuring real photo postcards (RPPC), lithographic topographical views, and comic cards. Notable topographical scenes include Scarborough North Bay, Valley Abbey West Gate, The Old Mill, Ambleside, Thirlmere and Saddleback – near Keswick, Sandown (Isle of Wight), and the Moorcock Inn, Waddington, Clitheroe. Specific identifying marks include Abraham’s Series No. 20 Keswick and Walter Greenhalgh – Proprietor on the Moorcock Inn card. The collection also includes a Philco Series 3222 F portrait of the actress Miss Gabrielle Ray, a group photo titled Seeing Blackpool, a topsy-turvy comic card, and a large cat card with a poem. A handwritten envelope addressed to Miss Nuttall of Chorlton Terrace is also present.
