Lot 466: S. Brannan and Sons Ship's Wheel Aneroid Barometer

A mid-20th-century British aneroid barometer by S. Brannan and Sons Ltd. The instrument is housed within a circular hardwood case designed in the form of a nautical ship’s wheel, featuring eight turned brass handles. The silvered dial is set beneath a brass-rimmed glass cover and provides barometric pressure readings in both inches of mercury (28 to 31) and millibars (950 to 1060). Standard weather indications range from Stormy to Very Dry, with additional instructions for rising and falling pressure. The dial is marked with the maker’s logo featuring the letters SB within a winged lozenge, as well as COMPENSATED and MADE IN ENGLAND. The reverse is fitted with a metal plate containing adjustment instructions and a brass keyhole wall mount.
