Lot 1: Frank Meadow Sutcliffe, Dock End, Whitby Harbour, Monochrome Photographic Print

A monochrome photographic print after the original 1880 negative by the noted British photographer Frank Meadow Sutcliffe (1853-1941). The composition depicts a busy maritime scene at Dock End in Whitby harbour, featuring several masted sailing vessels. According to the handwritten inscription on the reverse, the schooner Alec is positioned to the right of the frame, while the vessels Lively, Sara, and Hopewell are situated to the left. Whitby Abbey and the town are visible on the headland in the background. The print is a later production, likely a silver gelatin or digital pigment print, presented in a wide beige mount and a simple dark wood-effect frame. The reverse of the frame bears a handwritten paper label that reads: Dock End Taken 1880 / To the right the Schooner / Alec. / To the left Lively Sara + / Hopewell / Frank Meadow Sutcliffe Whitby 1880.
